Day 29: Vantage Point from the 16th Panera Visited in the Past Three and a Half Weeks.

Funny cone-headed man, sitting in
red-rust velour – – o, splendor! – –
by the shadow of the glass next to
absently rounded table,
for whom do you wait?
What stories could those
rheumy bright
eyes cased in thick bifocal lens
pass on,
bright stories of other cities explored and
strange persons visited?
Who will be the one to walk through
the rotating door, drawing
your uneasy glance up from
age-spotted hands tapping crinkled newsprint?
How often has someone said (shhh – –
compassionate hush now)
beloved
in your presence?

Dear red velour man, I should very much
like to know your name.
